Evolution, Theory & Experiments

Group leader: Yannis Michalakis

To study the evolution of host - parasite interactions we adopt both a theoretical and an experimental approach. The main question we address is the evolution of host and parasite life history traits. Our experimental approach spans from the characterization of the phenotypic effects of individual mutations to that of complex phenotypic effects.

We presently use three experimental systems:-
(i) interactions between mosquitoes and microsporidia,
(ii) interactions between insecticide resistance and vectorial capacity in mosquitoes, and
(iii) interactions between the Cauliflower Mosaic Virus (CaMV) and its host plants belonging to the Brassicaceae and Solanaceae families.

From a theoretical point of view we are modeling host - parasite interactions and their implication in the evolution of life history traits, evolution of resistance and virulence, local adaptation, evolution of reproductive modes or levels of ploidy.

Members of the group have been, or still are, involved to other projects as well (see individual pages).
