I am interested in host-parasite interactions, and in particular, in the capacity for insecticide resistant mosquitoes to act as disease vectors. Using a biological model involving Culex pipiens-Plasmodium, I am working with Ana Rivero and Julien Vezilier to respond to the following question: Are insecticide resistant mosquitoes better or worse pathogen vectors compared to susceptible mosquitoes? In practice, I study the mosquitoe's immune response during infection, variation in life history traits among the different strains, and the consequences of insecticide resistance for Plasmodium.
At the same time, I have maintained contact with the laboratories where I previously worked and continue to participate to research carried out by these groups. This includes the population genetics (via microsatellite markers) and dynamics of freshwater mollusks and the taxonomy and molecular phylogeny of mites of the genus Macrocheles (Acari, Mesostigmata).
